Description

Advanced Seminar: Government Lawyer Ethics from Watergate to Drones. Explores development and enforcement of ethical standards for government attorneys in the 40 years since Watergate. Using cases of Presidents Nixon & Clinton, VP Agnew, AG Kleindienst, Members of Congress, Judges, Justice Department officials and line lawyers, course examines effectiveness, and impact on public confidence, of existing ethical constraints on government lawyers. Surveys guidance and remedies from state, national bar rules, federal rules, regulations, statutes, Congressional ethics processes, Office of Government Ethics, Office of Special Counsel, Inspectors General, GAO, DOJ Professional Responsibility Advisory Office, DOJ Office of Professional Responsibility, Judicial Conference, Circuit Council, international agency reviews. Detailed study of ethical issues in Torture/Drone cases.
