Description

This course is an introduction to family law, policy and practice. It includes discussion of the evolution of families; the state and federal regulation of families and family disputes; resolution of property, alimony and child support issues in domestic disputes; protection of children, custody considerations and the Best Interest of the Child standard; negotiation, mediation and settlement of family law disputes; considerations in litigating family law matters; and ethical issues for the family lawyer. This is a class in which students are expected to engage in discussion of various topics relating to family law, including the application of family law to fact patterns.
