REGISTRATION: There are three parts to registering for an externship: 1) Register on-line for the seminar as you would for any class. 2) Register for the field placement by going to the Externship Page www.wcl.american.edu/externship and submit a Request for Approval, which generates the necessary forms. 3) Email the professors a copy of: a) your current resume, including relevant environmental experience and coursework; b) a short statement (max 300 words) describing your interest in environmental law and how this course will further that interest; and c) your externship placement or prospective externship placements and whether you need assistance finding a placement.

Description

The environmental externship combines the strength of the externship program with dynamic opportunities to experience public interest environmental law, both in the classroom and the field. Basic administrative and environmental legal precepts are covered, as are various litigation, lobbying and communication strategies. Past students have worked in advocacy groups, government agencies, trade associations, UN organizations, legislative offices and pro bono firms (among others). If you are seeking assistance in finding a field placement in the field of environmental law please contact Professors Jane Davenport or Addie Haughey.
