This course is a foundational sex and law course. It will examine gender and sex-based discrimination as defined by the Constitution, Title VII, Title VIII, Title IX, the Equal Pay Act, family law and criminal law. We will explore individual, pattern or practice, and class action sex discrimination cases. Class discussion will focus on practical considerations of litigating sex discrimination cases as well as the historical, social, economic, and psychological factors that impact representation of clients who experience sex-based discrimination. Students will be evaluated based on classroom participation and an exam.
