Description

This course will explore the fundamentals of zealous, client-centered criminal defense advocacy. The first part of the semester will focus on the role of the criminal defense attorney, selected legal issues in defense practice, and defense ethics. The second part will focus on the application of defense theory and client-centered advocacy in the pre-trial and trial context through simulated exercises, including the initial client interview, opening statements, direct and cross-examination, and closing arguments. Registration is by PERMISSION ONLY. Submit a resume and one page essay to Prof. Angela Davis describing your interest in and commitment to Criminal Defense. The essay should indicate whether you have taken Evidence. Evidence is not a prerequisite for the course but is recommended. The essay and resume should be emailed to Prof. Davis at angelad@wcl.american.edu
