Description
This seminar will deal with current constitutional, statutory, political and other problems related to elections. It will focus on such matters as the constitutional and statutory structure of our electoral system and we will compare our system with those of other advanced democracies. More specifically, we will discuss women's suffrage, voting and wealth, race, the Voting Rights Act, gerrymandering, voter registration, as well as recent and upcoming Supreme Court decisions on gerrymandering, independent redistricting commissions and the meaning of "one person one vote".
There is no exam, but a term paper is required.
Registration is limited to 15 students.
