2017 Next Steps in Health Reform

Next Steps in Health Reform is a biennial conference that brings together national leaders in health care law, policy, economics, and administration to track implementation of the Affordable Care Act and other statutes; identify developments on the horizon; and offer bold, new ideas for balancing cost, access, quality and patient autonomy in our rapidly changing health care system.

American University Washington College of Law launched the Next Steps in Health Reform conference in 2012 and 2015. In 2017, in partnership with the American Society of Law, Medicine and Ethics and with support from our co-sponsors, American University School of Public Affairs, American University Kogod Business School, and the University of Toronto Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, we expanded the event to a three-day conference attracting speakers and attendees from multiple disciplines, from the academy and practice, and from across the U.S. and Canada. Papers from the 2017 Next Steps in Health Reform Conference were published in the Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics.
