Alumni Lobbying Panel

Lunch and Learn About Lobbying from Alumni

On April 10th, WCL grads Misty Chally ’00, Tammy Boyd ’03 and Dan Martini ’12 joined Prof. Laguarda to talk about working in public policy advocacy, their careers and career highlights, and how they prepared to succeed ?? beginning with their law school studies. Attendees learned about what lobbyists do and how law school training and opportunities like externships and coursework in legislation and legislative drafting, can help students succeed in a range of interesting jobs. Working on Capitol Hill is obviously a great way to break into a career in lobbying, but not the only way. Being flexible, working on issues that interest you, and learning skills that are valuable in the political arena (such as how to set up and run a PAC or comply with campaign and election laws) can also help students to competitively differentiate themselves.
