Admission Requirements and Registration

ACADEMIC CREDIT: WCL JD, LLM, Students

WCL students taking these courses for academic credit need to register manually for the specialized summer courses by emailing registrationservices@wcl.american.edu and include their name, AU ID#, and the course name and number. A maximum of two academic credits in one week is allowed.

Students will be registered for the number of credits they intend to take as follows:

ACADEMIC CREDIT: Visiting Students and Practitioners Applying for Academic Credit

Applications must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office. Students who wish to accelerate graduation by enrolling for summer courses must consult and have permission from their home institutions. A letter of good standing and permission to enroll at the Washington College of Law must accompany your application. Visiting students can apply to use some credits toward a future LLM degree from the Washington College of Law. Please speak with the program director for further information on this option.

CERTIFICATE: US Practitioners and Foreign Attorneys

All courses can be taken for professional development. Upon completion of the program, a Certificate of Attendance will be presented to the participants.

To apply, candidates must hold a law degree either from a U.S. law school accredited by the American Bar Association or from a foreign law school with equivalent standards; Candidates who do not hold a law degree but have certain work experiences may be eligible to apply. Please email the program director at scielzo@wcl.american.edu with your request to apply along with a current resume.

NOTE: A US $65 non-refundable application fee must be sent with the registration form.

PROGRAM CHANGES AND WITHDRAWALS

Applicants who have registered or paid a deposit will be informed promptly of any changes in the Summer Session's course offerings and, in the unlikely event of a course cancellation, will receive a full refund for the course (excluding the application fee of $65, which is non-refundable). Students who have registered to receive academic credit must also contact the Office of the Registrar for information about withdrawal forms and deadlines. Refund is only available if you withdraw at least five business days before the start of classes. Cancellations after that time will not be refunded, however,seminar materials will be provided. Substitutions will be considered. Requests for refunds should be directed to:
