Virtual Currency: Emerging Legal and Regulatory Framework Under the Banking, Commercial and Securities Laws
With an estimated market capitalization of more than a half a trillion dollars and counting, virtual currency has exploded into a financial ecosystem composed of non-government based, virtual legal tender. The unique nature of digital currency and its underlying blockchain technology are raising significant issues for regulators, counsel, courts, investors and companies engaging in such activities as relates to existing legal and regulatory frameworks governing three major areas of financial activities: banking, commercial and securities transactions. A distinguished WCL faculty panel present analysis and discussion of the unique, novel and complex legal and regulatory issues emerging under these various laws and rules.
