Business and Human Rights: How is the Global Business Community Responding to the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights Three Years After its Adoption?
||Thursday, February 6, 2014
||12:00PM - 02:00PM
||In 2011, the U.N. released the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, setting the stage for a new era with respect to accountability for the human rights impacts of global business activity. The landmark Guiding Principles, also known as the Ruggie Principles, represents the first authoritative global framework for identifying, addressing, and preventing adverse human rights impacts resulting from business activities. Today, businesses large and small face opportunities and challenges in operationalizing the Principles in various industries and regions around the world. In this program, panelists from the business and legal communities will: (1) share their insights about progress to date in implementing the Principles, including identifying impediments to their wider adoption (2) identify corporate best practices generally, as well as particular businesses and sectors that are in the vanguard in embracing the Guiding Principles’ “Respect, Protect, Remedy” framework and (3) provide predictions about the impact the Guiding Principles will have on the way businesses operate throughout the world in the next 5, 10 and 20 years.
