International Efforts to Combat Racial Discrimination *CLE*

This high level panel discussion will explore the ways in which questions of discrimination and intolerance are being seen as issues of central concern in relation to social cohesion in countries and peace and security internationally. The panelists will discuss national legal frameworks and regional institutional mechanisms to monitor inequality and promote social inclusion, including the proposed Inter-American convention against racial discrimination. Panelists will include: members of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination; experts in the field of minority rights and racial discrimination from India and South Africa; regional inter-governmental organizations such as the African Union, the European Union and the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe; academics working on the issues of racial discrimination; representatives of civil society organizations; and representatives of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
