The outside scholarships listed below are intended for students pursuing legal studies; however, they are not affiliated with American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL). Although the information below is reviewed quarterly for accuracy, it is subject to change at any time by the scholarship organization(s). All outside scholarships received by AUWCL students must be reported to the AUWCL Financial Aid Office and are subject to the cost of attendance guidelines.
Akin Gump/ Robert Strauss Diversity Scholarship
The scholarship provides $25,000 to five outstanding second year students at U.S. law schools to offset expenses for their third year of law school. The scholarships will be awarded to students who evidence a commitment to diversity in the legal profession, who demonstrate excellence and who can bring diverse viewpoints and experiences to the firm. In addition to the financial award, the scholarships include mentoring from firm lawyers and a paid second-year summer associate position in Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York or Washington, D.C.
J. Franklyn Bourne Scholarship Fund, Inc.
Applicants must be registered at an accredited law school and be in good standing with said law school at the time of application. Selection criteria include financial need, academic achievements, service to community and school, strength of recommendations, and quality of essay.
Arent Fox Diversity Scholarship Program
Arent Fox will award scholarships to three first-year law students.
J.L. Turner Scholarships
Sponsor: J.L. Turner Legal Association
Open to minority law students from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, or students attending law school in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
The Weiss & Paarz Annual National Law Scholarship
Each year, Weiss & Paarz will award a law scholarship to a student starting or continuing law school anywhere in the United States of America.
Italian American Lawyers Association Scholarship
Awarded by the Italian American Lawyers Association of Los Angeles County, this program is open to students who are residents of Los Angeles County, CA who are attending or planning to attend law school.
Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr. Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA)
The LMJ Scholarship is open to students who have been accepted to an ABA accredited law school for a full-time Juris Doctorate degree. The scholarship is available to diverse individuals who: have overcome obstacles, are outstanding and promising scholars, have an interest in corporate law, and possess a commitment to diversity and inclusion. The LMJ Scholarship is a national program that annually grants 15 scholarships of $10,000 to students for their first year of law school. If funds are available, and the selected student remains in good academic standing, they may also qualify for additional financial support in years two and three.
Lawrence Bar Association Scholarships
Offers scholarships to law students who are from Lawrence, Methuen, North Andover and Andover, MA.
Mercer County Bar Association Scholarship
Awarded to a law student who is a resident of or has strong ties to Mercer County, NJ, who demonstrates financial need, and who is involved in community organizations.
The Skinner Law Firm Scholarship Essay
To participate in the scholarship, students must write a 600-word essay on the stated prompt.
