Outside Scholarships

May & June Scholarships

The outside scholarships listed below are intended for students pursuing legal studies; however, they are not affiliated with American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL). Although the information below is reviewed quarterly for accuracy, it is subject to change at any time by the scholarship organization(s). All outside scholarships received by AUWCL students must be reported to the AUWCL Financial Aid Office and are subject to the cost of attendance guidelines.

Crandall Pera Wilt (CPW) Law Legal Scholarship
The CPW Law Legal Scholarship is awarded to a student who has demonstrated an interest in a career as a trial lawyer, and a passion for representing injured individuals whose rights have been jeopardized. The scholarship is available to all pre-law, incoming and current students currently enrolled, or who will be enrolled, at an accredited law school for the upcoming semester, who can demonstrate financial need in the form of government-sponsored student loans, who have exemplified exceptional skills as orators and who consider helping those less fortunate a calling that they wish to answer. The student must also have a firm commitment to diversity and equality and be dedicated to protecting the rights of everyone regardless of race, sex, religion or sexual orientation.

Elizabeth Fitzwater Memorial Scholarship
$2,500.00 to be awarded in May 2018 to a deserving second year law student who demonstrates a strong interest in practicing law in the public service/public interest sector in South Hampton Roads and who meets the criteria established by the Selection Committee.

Haneman-Perskie Memorial Foundation Scholarship
Awarded by the Atlantic County Bar Association, this program is open to Atlantic County residents enrolled in an ABA accredited law school.

McGuireWoods Diversity Scholarship Program
McGuireWoods’ annual Diveristy Scholarship Program will award up to eight scholarships to diverse current first-year law students with an expected graduation year of 2020, who are committed to contributing to and supporting diversity within the legal profession.

The Mike Eidson Scholarship Fund
Sponsor: American Association for Justice
Awarded annually to a rising 3L (or rising 4L in a night program) female student who has demonstrated a commitment to a career as a trial lawyer, along with dedication to upholding and defending the principles of the Constitution, and to the concept of a fair trial, the adversary system, and a just result for the injured, the accused, and those whose rights are jeopardized.

Nassau Lawyers Association Scholarship
Awarded to residents of Nassau County, NY who are accepted to or enrolled in law school.

Pacific Legal Foundation Law Student Writing Competition
Pacific Legal Foundation is now inviting applications for the “Law Student Writing Competition”. The completion is open to students who are currently enrolled full- or part-time in a law school in the United States. The program will award up to $9,000 to three winning candidates.

The Plaxen and Adler Scholarship
The Plaxen and Adler Scholarship is awarded to a law student who has demonstrated an interest in civil trial advocacy and a career as a civil trial lawyer, as well as the concept of a fair Civil Justice system, a just result for the injured, a desire to represent the injured and those whose rights are jeopardized. The scholarship is available to all students enrolled in law school as well as senior college students already accepted in an accredited law school, including those who are outstanding and promising scholars, have an interest in civil trial advocacy and possess a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Pond Lehocky Stern Giordano General Annual Scholarship
The scholarship is open to everyone currently accepted to or enrolled in higher education.

Chief Justice Samuel J. Roberts Scholarship Fund
Residents of Erie County, Pennsylvania who will be entering their first year at an ABA accredited law school are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Assuming the availability of funds, and provided that the student maintains a satisfactory academic record, the scholarship may be renewed for the student's second and third years.

Earl Warren Legal Training Program, Inc. - Public Interest Law Scholarships
Sponsor: NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund
LDF's Earl Warren Scholarship awards are $10,000 per year for three years (as long as scholars remain in good academic standing) for a total of $30,000. In addition to financial assistance, Earl Warren scholars are given two unique opportunities: (1) an LDF internship, externship, or guided research project;competitive positions that are sought out by dozens of students every year, and (2) an invitation to LDF's Civil Rights Training Institute, an invitation-only annual civil rights conference that brings together civil rights advocates, scholars, and attorneys to discuss strategies and to network.

Alpert Schreyer Law Firm Scholarship
The Maryland Personal Injury Attorneys of the Alpert Schreyer Law Firm understand the financial struggles that college can cause. For this reason, the Alpert Schreyer Law Firm is honored to sponsor the Alpert Schreyer Law Firm $1,000 Scholarship Essay Contest.

Arnold & Itkin LLP Academic Scholarship
$5,000 scholarship to two current 2nd or 3rd year law students who share a passion for assisting the underprivileged and the victims of tragedy.

Cabaniss - Johnston Scholarship
Awarded By: Alabama Law Foundation
Must be an Alabama resident who is a second year student and demonstrates financial need.

ChapmanAlbin Scholarship for Law Students
$1,000 scholarship to cover the cost of law student’s tuition and other related expenses such as books or room/board.

F. Emerson Logee Memorial Law Scholarship
Applicant must be a graduate of a Wayne County High School who has been accepted and planning to attend an accredited law school.

Harris Lowry Manton LLC Scholarship
The Harris Lowry Manton Academic Scholarship Award will be given to any pre-law, incoming or current law student who is either currently enrolled, or who will be enrolled, in an accredited college or university for the Fall semester of the upcoming academic year.

HORIZONS Scholarship
Sponsor: Women In Defense, A National Security Organization
Open to female students enrolled full-time or part-time in an accredited university or college who demonstrate interest in pursuing a career related to national security and have a minimum GPA of 3.25. Must also be a U.S. citizen and demonstrate financial need.

Korean-American Scholarship Foundation: KASF Scholarships
KASF scholarships are offered to the qualified Korea American students (including foreign students from Korea). All applicants must be enrolled in a full time program in the U.S during the scholarship application year.

Marilynne Graboys Wool Scholarship
Awarded to female law students who demonstrate financial need and are residents of Rhode Island.

2018 Michigan Workers Comp Law Scholarship
$500 scholarship for law school students who are actively pursuing a law degree. The scholarship is open to all 1L, 2L, and 3L students.

Plattner Verderame, P.C.’s Annual Civil Justice Scholarship
This annual award will be given to a student interested in any aspect of social or civil justice, who is currently enrolled in, or will be enrolled in, an accredited college or university for the upcoming academic year. The scholarship can be paid directly to the student’s college at his or her request.

Scrofano Law PC Aspiring Public Defender Scholarship
Criteria: 1st or 2nd year law student; Interest in legal career representing individuals rather than institutions; Employed in summer position at a public defender’s office.

Wayne County Bar Association Scholarship
Applicant must be a graduate of a Wayne County High School who has been accepted and planning to attend an accredited law school.

Zeiger Firm Scholarship
In order to participate in the contest, prospective applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited United States college or university or planning to attend one in the academic year of 2018-2019.
