Annual "In My Back Yard" Public Service Day

What is "IMBY"? Simply put, IMBY is the opposite of NIMBY... it's a celebration of everything good in our community and a chance to be part of positive work being done at various organizations all over the District. IMBY sets the tone for the spirit of public service and community involvement that pervades at WCL.

For 1Ls, IMBY is a fun way to kick off orientation week, get out and see the city, and meet new classmates in a relaxed environment. For 2Ls, 3Ls, faculty and staff, IMBY is a chance to reconnect with the community and to welcome incoming 1Ls in the spirit of public service.

IMBY participation is counted towards WCL’s Pro Bono Honors Pledge Program, which recognizes graduating students who have completed a minimum of 75 hours of pro bono legal assistance and community service. The Pro Bono Honors Pledge Program is one part of WCL’s focus on public interest work and community engagement.

IMBY 2014 took place on Tuesday, August 19, 2014. More than 150 students participated in the day of service, which ended with a networking happy hour event.

The IMBY coordinators recommend that students contact any of these great organizations directly to learn about ways they may continue to be involved in area community service projects throughout the year.

The IMBY Public Service Day is planned entirely by the rising 2L Public Interest/Public Service (PIPS) Scholars. A big thank you to these student leaders, the host sites, and to all of the faculty and staff who join us each year.
