Professor David Hunter Receives AU Faculty Award for Outstanding Service

On Sunday, April 28, American University Washington College of Law Professor David Hunter was honored at American University’s 2019 University Faculty Recognition Dinner.

Hunter – who specializes in the areas of international environmental law, human rights and the environment, and climate change litigation, law and policy – is the recipient of AU’s 2019 Outstanding Service to the University Community in a Tenure-Line Appointment Award.

A professor of international and comparative environmental law, Hunter served as director of AUWCL’s International Legal Studies Program from 2010-2017; director of the Program on International and Comparative Environmental Law from 2005-2018; and co-faculty director of the Human Rights Center (since 2013).

He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Accountability Counsel, Earth Advocates (chair), the Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide-US (chair), and the Project on Government Oversight (chair). He is a Member Scholar of the Center for Progressive Reform and a member of the Organization of American States’ Expert Group on Environmental Law, the InterAmerican Network for Environmental Law’s Advisory Board, and the Strategic Advisors Group for the International Finance Corporation’s Compliance Advisor/Ombudsman.

Hunter is the author of numerous articles and book chapters on environmental law topics and is also co-author of the text books International Environmental Law & Policy (5th ed.) and Climate Change Law (2nd ed.).
