Congratulations to rising 2L Alessandra Schaszberger, a recipient of Banner Witcoff’s 2019 Donald W. Banner Diversity Fellowship.

Created to strengthen diversity and inclusion in the field of intellectual property law, the fellowship will give Schaszberger the opportunity to participate in Banner Witcoff’s summer associate program at the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. She is one of four law students selected for the fellowship.

Schaszberger, who has a degree in biomedical engineering from Columbia University, said the fellowship will allow her to work alongside intellectual property lawyers and provide an introduction to the inner workings of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Throughout the summer, she will observe federal court hearings and attend local trials, hearings, and depositions.

“I will (also) be attending regularly scheduled luncheon programs with attorneys on intellectual property issues,” Schaszberger said. “I am very excited for this opportunity because one of the main reasons I wanted to attend law school was to work in intellectual property. I wanted to find a field that combined both my technological background (biomedical engineering) with my law degree.”

“We are honored to reward these four outstanding law students for their contributions and commitment to the field of intellectual property law. We are equally honored they expressed an interest in joining our team,” Banner Witcoff President Andy Mu said. “We look forward to watching their careers and continuing our dedication to diversity through The Donald W. Banner Diversity Fellowship.”
