For students looking to enhance their legal education through experiential learning, externships offer a unique opportunity. Whether placed at a federal government agency, administrative court, or non-profit organization students gain in-depth knowledge in specific areas of the law and work with leading attorneys in their field of interest. Those who participate in the Externship Program discover that in addition to performing substantive legal work, they can also use their on-the-job experiences to build their future.  

On June 26, 2015, Dean Claudio Grossman hosted a breakfast with AUWCL alumni in San Jose, Costa Rica at the restaurant Jurgens at the Hotel Jade. Alumni at the event expressed their support for the law school community and the upcoming move to the Tenley campus.

Dean Claudio Grossman, in his capacity as president of the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights and the chairperson of the Committee against Torture, opened the 27th Meeting of Chairpersons of Human Rights Treaty Bodies of the United Nations (UN). Taking place in San Jose, Costa Rica, June 22-26, this is the first official meeting that the heads of human rights committees, also known as treaty bodies, hold in the Western Hemisphere.

For years, Carolyn Ronis ’14 (LL.M., Law & Government) has had a vision to affect change in the lives of people around the world. In September 2014, she brought her vision to life by starting her own non-profit organization, the International Coalition for the Eradication of Hunger & Abuse (ICEHA).  

An opening reception was held for participants in the law school's specialized summer law programs, including the Program on International Organizations, Law and Diplomacy (PIOLD), International Commercial Arbitration, and the Environmental Law program.
