The American University Law Review is pleased to invite you to its annual symposium, “Democracy and the Law: 2020,” on Friday, January 31st at American University Washington College of Law in Claudio Grossman Hall from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The symposium will feature three panels of experts in the law of democracy from around the country to discuss the contemporary legal issues surrounding campaign finance, voting rights, and political speech online. Price: $220.00 payable upon registration for the program.
This program is accredited in Pennsylvania for 4.5 CLE credit hours under the substantive law category. Attorneys licensed in New York and New Jersey can obtain CLE credits by attending this program pursuant to the states’ out-of-state approved jurisdiction policy.

Rise Against Hate
Please join us on Friday, January 31st at noon in NT01 (Ceremonial Classroom) for our lunchtime event, Rise Against Hate, which commemorates the 10 year anniversary of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act. Featuring guest speakers include Judy Shepard, Michael Lieberman (Anti-Defamation League), David Stacy (Human Rights Campaign), Kristen Clarke (Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law), Mara Keisling (National Center for Transgender Equality) and Hilary Shelton (NAAP). Lunch will be served. This event is sponsored by the following WCL organizations: the Program on Law and Government, the Lambda Law Society, the Jewish Law Society, the Black Law Students Association, and the AU Office of Campus Life and Inclusive Excellence. This annual event matches students with practicing alumni working in their field of interest for one-on-one meetings. Each meeting is approximately 20 minutes, and may include resume review, career coaching, helpful hints on how to make contacts in the field or a particular organization, as well as personal experiences.
