Pandemics and International Law

09:00AM - 12:00PM Online via Zoom

On October 16 from 12pm-1:30pm, Dean Emeritus Grossman organized a side event on the occasion of the meeting of the UN General Assembly Sixth Committee (Legal Committee). The Meeting was co-sponsored by the Permanent Missions of Chile, Portugal, Sierra Leone, Turkey and Vietnam. The recording of the session is attached below for reference.

Additionally, Professor Grossman and Charles Jalloh (from Sierra Leone) presented a proposal to the International Law Commission (ILC), building on the work of the Institut de Droit International (IDI), to incorporate pandemics and international law into the long term program of the ILC. The idea is to get support from States to add this topic to the agenda of the ILC, with the purpose of preparing a Treaty designed to protect persons in cases of Pandemics.

A follow up meeting will occur November 18 from 9am to 12pm, co-sponsored by WCL, the WCL chapter of the International Law Student Association, the Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, and the institutions of the ILC members - law schools in Chile, Singapore, Turkey, Vietnam, Portugal, and Sierra Leone.

The event will also be streamed to Youtube Live: https://youtu.be/t-wcYGfv3-w
