An Inside Look at the HHS-OIG Office of Counsel to the Inspector General
Join the Health Law and Policy Program as we explore the HHS-OIG Office of Counsel to the Inspector General (OCIG), which provides timely, accurate and persuasive legal advocacy and counsel to the Inspector General and OIG's other components. The OCIG acts as a full-service, in-house legal counsel and also (i) offers advice and representation on HHS programs and operations, employment, administrative law issues, and criminal procedure; (ii) imposes program exclusions and civil monetary penalties on health care providers; (iii) represents OIG in the global settlement of cases arising under the civil False Claims Act, develops and monitors corporate integrity agreements, develops compliance program guidance; and (iv) renders advisory opinions on OIG sanctions and issues fraud alerts and other industry guidance. AUWCL alumni will provide an inside look at OCIG and discuss current health care enforcement trends, challenges, and priorities.
