Information Session: The WCL Pro Bono Honors Pledge Program

12:00PM - 01:00PM Washington College of Law

The WCL Pro Bono Honors Pledge program recognizes the voluntary, uncompensated work undertaken by WCL students while at the law school on behalf of low-income and underrepresented populations or for the public good. The program is designed to encourage students to continue engaging in pro bono service throughout their careers. Students who take the pledge commit to completing a minimum of 75 hours of pro bono and community service projects. At least 50 hours of the pro bono work completed must be with an organization engaged primarily in law-related or legal work. Join the staff of OPI for an information session and learn how to signup and get involved!

Montgomery County Summer Scholars Pipeline Program Information Session

12:00PM - 01:00PM

OCPD will be hosting an information session on Thursday, September 9, 2021, from noon – 1:00 PM to highlight Montgomery County’s Summer Scholars Pipeline Program. This program partners with the Montgomery County Bar Foundation, specialty bar associations, local law firms and regional law schools to identify 15 second year law students to compete for up to 11 summer intern positions within participating Montgomery County law firms. The selected students will be hired for summer internships with the hopes that their experiences will create a pipeline for a diverse group of talented soon-to-be-lawyers who might eventually join the ranks of Montgomery County practitioners. By the same token, it is our sincere hope that the Program might serve to further the diversity of our community at all levels and in all respects.

Get matched with an Alumni Mentor! L.I.F.T. Information Session

05:30PM - 06:00PM Washington College of Law

The Office of Academic Excellence will host a brief informational session on the L.I.F.T. program, WCL’s alumni bar exam mentoring program.

L.IF.T. (Lead, Inform, Foster, Transform) pairs alumni-mentors with student-mentees primarily based upon bar exam jurisdictions, but we will also seek to align areas of practice, professional interests, and location. Throughout the program students may seek advice on jurisdiction selection, practice, bar prep, and your experiences preparing for the bar exam. This is a great resource during the bar application period, and a fantastic opportunity for networking.

We will discuss the expectations of the program and its scope in this session. Students who wish to apply for an alumni mentor must do so by September 17.

If you have any questions about the session or the L.I.F.T. program, please contact Meg Lee at melee@wcl.american.edu
