Human Rights Law

The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of current international human rights law and the mechanisms for its implementation and enforcement. The first module will explain the theoretical approaches to human rights as well as the international public law concepts in which international human rights law develops. In modules two and three we will study the functioning of the universal and regional human rights systems. In module four we will have an in-depth analysis of some human rights, through which the functioning and jurisprundence of the International Human Rights mechanisms will be reviewed. Module five will focus in International Criminal Law. At the conclusion of this course, you will have learned:

  • The debates around human rights;
  • The relation between the general concepts of international public law and its application in international human rights law; and
  • How the international mechanism of human rights works.
