Biography

Professor Pierre Mayer is a specialist in private international law and arbitration law, two subjects which he has taught for decades at the University of Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne). He has practised, as counsel and as an arbitrator, with the firms Coudert Brothers, Clifford Chance and, lastly, Dechert, where he was a partner for the past ten years. He now has his own practice and acts mainly as an arbitrator, in both commercial and investment arbitration procedures.

Professor Pierre Mayer is recognized as one of the top thirty arbitrators worldwide by the Global Arbitration Review and was described by Legal 500 EMEA 2015 as "one of the most famous arbitrators in the world".

Qualifications : Doctor of Private Law (1971) ; Agrégé in private law (1971) ; Doctor honoris causa, University of Liège and University of Athens.

Other professional activities : President of the International Academy for Arbitration Law (Arbitration Academy) ; Former President (now member) of the Comité français de droit international privé ; Member of the Council of the ICC Institute of World Business Law ; Member of the Board of Comité français de l'arbitrage ; Member of the Institut de droit international.

He works both in French and in English
