Ranked among the top ten arbitrators worldwide, Gabrielle Kaufmann-Kohler has handled over 160 international arbitrations mainly focused on commercial and investment disputes. In 1977 she completed her Legal Studies at the University of Basel and in 1979 received her Doctorate degree.  As a professor of international private law at the University of Geneva, she has authored and edited many books and articles in the field of dispute settlement, and heads several research projects financed by the Swiss National Research. Since 1996, she has been a partner at Levy Kaufmann-Kohler, where she practices commercial, investment, and sports arbitration. She is renowned for her expertise in sports disputes. From 1996 to 2000, she chaired the Arbitral Tribunal at the Olympic Games, and in 2002 she set up an ad hoc panel for the FIFA World Cup. Ms. Kaufmann-Kohler chaired the ordinary division of the Court of Arbitration for Sports from 1994 to 2001, and has contributed to the drafting of the CAS Code and the Arbitration Rules for the Olympic Games.

She is the Honorary President of the Swiss Arbitration Association, a member of the ICC International Court, the Board of the American Bar Association, and the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA).
