Eighth LL.M. International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition
March 28-30, 2019
The Center on International Commercial Arbitration will organize on March 28 through to 30, 2019, the Eighth LL.M. International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition. The Competition will start on March 28, 2019(afternoon) with a conference that will discuss important issues related to the problem. The 2019 general rounds will take place on March 29 and the elimination rounds on March 30.
This event, specifically created for LL.M. students, seeks to foster the study of international arbitration for the resolution of international business disputes and investment disputes. Please see Schedule here.
About the Competition
The competition focuses primarily on oral advocacy before a panel of arbitration experts. Participants are required to submit a brief argument outline. No other written memorandum is required. The Competition alternates every year between a problem involving an International Commercial Dispute and a problem arising out of an Investment Protection Law or BIT Provision. In 2019, the problem will be based on an International Commercial Dispute under the Arbitration Rules of the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the Chamber of Commerce Brazil Canada (CAM-CCBC)
Clarification for 2019 Problem
Clause 9 - ARBITRATION.
In the event of any controversy or claim arising out of or relating to this contract, or a breach thereof, the parties hereto shall consult and negotiate with each other and, recognizing their mutual interests, attempt to reach a satisfactory solution. If they do not reach settlement, and within 60 days after the failure of the negotiation, any party may start arbitral proceedings for the unresolved controversy or claim. Such arbitration shall be in English in Panama or such other location as the parties may agree under the rules of the Center for Arbitration and Mediation of the Chamber of Commerce Brazil-Canada.
