AUWCL and AU School of Education Selected to Participate in DC Public Schools Adopt-a-School Program

Aug. 10, 2018

American University Washington College of Law and the American University School of Education have partnered to participate in the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) Adopt-a-School Program.  The program is a DCPS initiative launched in 2015 by the School Partnerships Division (SPD) in the Office of Family and Public Engagement. This program provides a structured pathway for partnership between DCPS schools and our community of supporters. It is intended for corporate and community organizations interested in building relationships with schools that support student success for a minimum of one academic year. During this collaboration, partners and schools will work together to determine how to best connect partner resources and interests with the schools unique needs. This relationship is a joint effort led by the school and partner, and supported by the SPD. For the 2018-2019 year, the program site selected for the AUWCL partnership is Truesdell Education Campus, which serves PK, 3-5, 7, 8 in the Brightwood Park, Crestwood, and Petworth neighborhoods of DC.

The 2018-2019 DCPS Adopt-a-School Program is made up of 42 individual partnerships. View the full list of partnerships here.

Over the next few months, the partnership plan will be finalized and events will begin.  Events will include a Career Fair, a Family Block Party and School Beautification events.  The American University lead is Kendra Brown, senior director for diversity, inclusion and affinity and the director of the AUWCL Office of Diversity and Inclusion.  She can be reached at kebrown@wcl.american.edu.  The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is specifically focused on fostering pipeline efforts to share the impact and opportunities that exist within legal careers.
