Delaware
Bar Exam: Delaware offers a three-day non-UBE exam once per year in July, which is comprised of:
- Two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) questions, which are "closed universe" practical questions that feature instructions, factual data, cases, statutes and other reference material supplied by examiners.
- Eight 45-minute essay questions, which are specific to Delaware law and cover the following subjects:
- Agency & Corporations
- Criminal Law (including Delaware Criminal Code)
- Equity
- Partnerships
- Procedure (State and Federal)
- Trusts
- UCC
- Wills
- All MBE subjects as detailed below
- Two hundred multiple-choice Multistate Bar Exam (MBE) questions, covering the following seven subjects:
- Constitutional Law
- Contracts
- Criminal Law & Procedure
- Evidence
- Federal Civil Procedure
- Real Property
- Torts
Scoring: A minimum combined scaled score of 145 (out of a possible 200 points) is required to pass. The scaled written score is weighted 60% and the scaled MBE score is weighted 40%.
Filing Deadlines: The early application deadline for the Bar Exam is April 1, and the late filing deadline is May 1.
Fees: The fee for first-time takers not yet admitted in another jurisdiction is $700 if filed before the early filing deadline. The fee for applications submitted after the early filing deadline but before the late filing deadline is $1,400.
Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam: A scaled score of 85 on the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE) is required for admission to the Delaware bar.
