On August 16 and 17, Dean Camille A. Nelson welcomed AUWCL's impressive incoming class on behalf of the law school and American University. Center for Human Rights Releases Publication on "The Prohibition of Torture"
The Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law has released a new publication titled, "The Prohibition of Torture: An Introductory Guide." It introduces the international legal framework against torture and the key roles that the Center's Anti-Torture Initiative and Kovler Project Against Torture play in its development and enforcement. The Center hopes that this guide will serve as a resource for those committed to human rights, as they navigate the opportunities and challenges of this dynamic area of law.
Professor Padideh Ala'i Appointed to Faculty Director of the International Legal Studies Program
AUWCL Dean Camille A. Nelson has appointed Professor Padideh Ala'i as faculty director of the International Legal Studies Program beginning Aug. 1. In this capacity, Ala'i will promote, represent, and coordinate the law school's renowned international programs, including the International Legal Studies Program which has nearly 4,000 LL.M. alumni around the world. Ala'i is a professor of law who specializes in the areas of international economic law, law of the World Trade Organization, and comparative law.
