Jane Crow: Gender Issues in Incarceration
12:00PM
Washington College of Law
Sponsored By: The Woman & the Law Program, The Criminal Law Practitioner, The Criminal Law Society, and If/When/How
This event seeks to engage law students, professors, and members of the community in a conversation on how our criminal justice system dictates the most personal choices of women and non-binary people, often robbing them of those choices entirely. We hope to inspire a discussion on how we can work towards reproductive justice within and beyond the carceral state. This event looks specifically at how incarceration impacts persons who either have children or are pregnant while incarcerated as well as concerns about the growing criminalization of abortion and miscarriage. We are operating under the Sistersong definition of reproductive justice: the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities.
