Conflict and Crisis in Venezuela: Human Rights & International Responses

12:00PM - 01:30PM Washington College of Law NT01
Join the Center for Human Rights & Humanitarian Law and the Center for Latin American and Latino Studies (CLALS) in examining the political and human rights crises in Venezuela, which have placed the country at the center of discussions over hemispheric security.  Recent financial sanctions against the Maduro government have escalated tensions between Washington and Caracas.  The Maduro government is facing increasing isolation in Latin America while maintaining strategic relationships with Cuba, China, and Russia.  Experts Maria Corina Muskus Toro (human rights expert), Geoff Ramsey (Washington Office on Latin America), and Carla Bustillos (Visión Democrática), with moderator Michael McCarthy (CLALS), will provide insight into Venezuela’s deepening human rights crisis and explain how different international responses have sought to address the conflict-ridden situation.  Please RSVP to humlaw@wcl.american.edu.  Refreshments will be provided.
