PIJIP Professor and Faculty Director Christine Farley was quoted on WNYC (New York Public Radio) this morning, on a segment titled "Coronavirus Pandemic Triggers A Rush to Trademark Virus-Related Words and Slogans".

Prof. Farley discussed limits to the rights conferred by a trademark:

"Nobody owns a word. The company Apple doesn't own 'Apple' and they don't get to prevent other people from using that word. They get to prevent people from using the word apple in limited circumstances, such as when another company would use it to confuse consumers as to the source of their goods."
