Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property

PIJIP Professor and Faculty Director Christine Haight Farley will present her article  at the upcoming Annual Workshop of the International Society for the History and Theory of Intellectual Property (ISHTIP).

The legislation would require online news aggregators to enter into licensing agreements with news companies in order to display snippets, titles or links to their content.

PIJIP has been collecting first-hand accounts of last month's meeting of WIPO's Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) by a civil society coalition on Access to Knowledge. Our Right to Research in International Copyright project works closely with these groups and experts to advance discussions of copyright user rights at the SCCR. 

In the interview, he explains the meaning of  “information justice,” the restrictions that continue to constrain research and education – even in today’s digital age – and how global IP laws impact access to the Covid vaccine.

The "Copyright Clause Restoration Act" would limit copyright terms to 56 years, and apply the shorter term retroactively to works owned by large corporations.

Flynn's statement included sections on 1. PIJIP's new study on research exceptions in comparative copyright, 2. limitations and exceptions in WIPO's proposed broadcast treaty, and 3. a new African Proposal for a Work Plan on limitations and exceptions.
