PIJIP and the University of Amsterdam's Institute for Information Law (IViR) will host an upcoming conference to discuss models that international copyright law could use to enable cross border uses of research materials. 

PIJIP Faculty Director Christine Haight Farley's chapter in the WIPO Status Report on Protection Against Unfair Competition described compared legal protections in Canada and the United States. 

Professor Sean Flynn will be visiting the University of Copenhagen’s Centre for Information and Innovation Law (CIIR) this week. He will present a work in progress on models that international copyright law could use to enable cross border uses of research materials.

In the events, practitioners at public-interest nonprofits discussed the big issues in patent policy conversations today, such as digital civil liberties, access to medicines, and antitrust.

The paper  classifies countries based on the degree to which they have a research exception in their law that is sufficiently open to be able to permit reproduction and communications of copyrighted work needed for academic  text and data mining research.
