Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property

American University Washington College of Law is pleased to announce the application for up to five (5) full-tuition scholarships for government delegates from developing countries to attend our annual course, to be held in Geneva, Switzerland June 11 - June 24, 2023.

PIJIP is offering 15 scholarships to attend a certificate course on Access to Knowledge in the Multilateral System. The scholarships are designed for representatives of organizations or governments who participate in meetings of the WIPO Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR).

On March 6, 2023, PIJIP, Knowledge Ecology International and the Access to Knowledge Coalition recently hosted a technical briefing on the legal and policy issues at stake in the 43rd meeting of the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights.

PIJIP Senior Research Analyst Andrés Izquierdo has written a report on the  World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) negotiations on on limitations and exceptions, and the African Group Work Plan Proposal. 

Last semester, PIJIP Director Sean Flynn hosted a series of online webinars on the Right to Research in International Copyright Law. PIJIP’s YouTube channel has posted a playlist of highlights from the series.

The week of public and private meetings in Pretoria and Cape Town featured discussions of how African researchers are using modern digital technologies to address a range of pressing research questions that require use of research exceptions in copyright law.

PIJIP is please to announce a new paper in our Research Paper series, by Professors Orit Fischman Afori and Dalit Ken-Dror Feldman. 

PIJIP is co-organizing a week of debates on copyright and access to knowledge in South Africa the week of January 23rd, with a coalition of three university groups and four civil society organizations. 

The American University Washington College of Law Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property (PIJIP), the American Library Association, and the Association of Research Libraries are hosting a Global Symposium on Protecting User Rights from Contractual Override during this year’s annual meeting of the Global Expert Network on Copyright User Rights.
