This fall, the American University Washington College of Law (WCL) is going to hold an Externship “Mini-Fair” for employers and externship field placements that specialize in Intellectual Property, Communications & Media Law. The students attending the Fair will be limited to those 2nd and 3rd year students who have a demonstrated interest in Intellectual Property, Communications & Media Law, including members of the WCL Intellectual Property Society, the WCL Intellectual Property Brief, the Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property (PIJIP), the Glushko-Samuelson Intellectual Property Law Clinic, WCL Communications Law Society, and students enrolled in upper level IP and media law courses. Employers offering internships, externships or paid positions are welcome to attend.

Each year, the Washington College of Law Externship Program places over 350 students in unpaid externships with government agencies, courts, not-for-profit organizations and law firms engaged in pro bono work. Students work full time during the summer semester, and can work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters.

The Intellectual Property, Communications & Media Law Externship Fair provides an opportunity for employers to meet and informally interview students interested in interning or externing in upcoming semesters — Spring, Summer and Fall 2017. It does not replace our annual Spring Externship Fair. The Business, Finance, Tax & Health Law Fairs will be held simultaneously, in adjacent space.
