Women and the Law Program and Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO)

Training Program

As part of our “Capacity Building Project on Women’s Health and Human Rights,” the Women and the Law Program and PAHO are in the process of developing a training program for PAHO teams on Women’s Human Rights and Health, which will address the following:

  • Constitutional, regional and international human rights norms and standards relevant to the right to health and other related human rights of women;
  • International/regional human rights action strategies developed by PAHO and other actors (States, NGOs, international agencies, etc.) to strengthen and develop the right to health and other related human rights of women in PAHO Member States;
  • Selected national public health policies, plans, laws and practices that protect the right to health of women consistent with regional and international human rights norms and standards;
  • Selected PAHO interventions in the field which, in collaboration with PAHO/WHO Representative Offices and national authorities, promote and protect the health of women as a right and other related human rights in the context of specific health themes and women’s equality for vulnerable women (women with disabilities, women living with HIV, women with mental disorders, older women, indigenous girls and women, and women exposed to second hand tobacco smoke, etc.);
  • Current initiatives developed by Ombudspersons to promote and protect the right to health of women; and
  • Domestic/regional/international jurisprudence developed by national courts, OAS and UN treaty bodies which strengthens the right to health and other related rights of women through policy, plans, law, or services reform.
