Mike Messersmith



Michael Messersmith has over 17 years of experience as a corporate lawyer. After graduating magna cum laude from Georgetown Law, he practiced at Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York City for several years and later joined Kirkland & Ellis in Washington, D.C. After Kirkland & Ellis, he joined American Capital, an international private equity firm with $80 billion in assets under management, serving as senior vice president and deputy general counsel. Professor Messersmith focuses his practice primarily on complex business transactions, including mergers & acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, tender offers and going private transactions, private equity, venture capital, joint ventures and strategic alliances, leveraged finance, corporate finance, high yield bond offerings, and private equity and hedge fund formations.
