Certificate in Business & Human Rights

LEARN THE TOOLS TO MANAGE RISKS AND MEET INTERNATIONAL LEGAL STANDARDS AT THE INTERSECTION OF BUSINESS AND HUMAN RIGHTS

 


This Certificate program offers rigorous and up-to-date training for all professionals on the multiple challenges at the intersection of human rights and business activity including: data privacy and surveillance, environmental risks and climate change, specific industry risks in the extractive, agricultural, and technological industries, compliance with international standards, and much more.

Over the course of 10 weeks of live weekly classes, participants will actively explore the theoretical and legal foundations of the field, including the UN Guiding Principles, national and international challenges and implementation mechanisms, strategic litigation, and specific case studies. The program takes a practical, interactive, and multidisciplinary approach, aimed at lawyers, members of NGOs, public officials, academics, and companies committed to responsible conduct. This certificate is not for academic credits.

Faculty includes renowned international experts in the field of business, international, and human rights law, including Prof. Claudia Martin, Co-Director, Academy on Human Rights, WCL, Pablo Saavedra, Ex-Secretary, IACHR, and guest speakers including Astrid Puentes, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and the Environment, Andrea Repetto Vargas, Director of MICI of the IDB, Humberto Cantú, Professor of Law and Director of the Business and Human Rights Institute, U. of Monterrey, Catalina Botero, UNESCO Chair on Freedom of Expression, Former Co-chair, Oversight Board of META, Fernanda Hopenhaym, Member of the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights, and Co-Executive Director, PODER, and Lucas E. Gómez, professor of human rights, consultant to multinational companies, and partner at Southern Light Group.
