Saba N. Ahmed is a practicing immigration attorney and adjunct faculty in the Immigrant Justice Clinic and directs the clinic’s AU Dream Initiative. Through AU Dream, Professor Ahmed represents undocumented and noncitizen students at American University and in the Washington, DC metropolitan area (DMV). Professor Ahmed also works with partners at local and national universities and organizations to advocate for policies and programs that benefit noncitizen higher education students.

For over a decade, Professor Ahmed has supported immigrant communities in the DMV through both legal advocacy and education. She represents noncitizens in a wide range of immigration matters before the immigration courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Since 2017, Professor Ahmed has taught in law school immigration clinics, mentoring students as they learn to practice immigration law and preparing them to become thoughtful, skilled advocates. Before leading AU Dream, she supervised law students at CUNY School of Law and UDC School of Law, guiding them through cases involving naturalization, green cards, deportation defense, asylum, and other humanitarian forms of relief.

Earlier in her legal career, Professor Ahmed worked with the Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights Coalition (now the Amica Center for Immigrant Rights) to provide legal support and represent immigrants detained in Maryland and Virginia.
