How to Handle a BIT Arbitration

This three-day intensive seminar based on a mock arbitration case will provide critical skills and practical insight into handling BIT arbitration cases primarily under the auspices of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
The faculty, composed of leading practitioners in the field, will draw upon their experience as arbitrators and litigators to give detailed practical guidance on the various stages of the arbitration, including: preliminary steps in ICSID Arbitration; preparatory conference and arbitral procedure; the arbitration request; the answer to the arbitration request; selection and rights and duties of arbitrators; evidentiary issues; the arbitral award; and enforcement of arbitral awards. Through dynamic interactive lectures and scenario-based exercises, participants will have the opportunity to work in small groups in constant debate with international experts and will be taught skills, strategies, and tactics for successfully conducting a BIT arbitration.

Scholarships Available to WCL Students to participate in Seminar
The Center on International Commercial Arbitration will award scholarships to 2 WCL students to participate in the Seventh Annual Seminar.The scholarship consists of the seminar fee which includes materials, breakfasts, lunches, the opening dinner, and closing reception. Upon completion of the seminar a Certificate of Attendance will be presented.
To qualify for the scholarship you must:
1) Be currently enrolled as a WCL student (JD, LLM, or SJD).
2) Have experience or exposure in at least 2 of the following fields: Arbitration, Dispute Resolution, and Business Law.
3) Demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in arbitration.
