WCL Students at WIPO in Geneva for Summer Abroad Program

A cohort of WCL students and professors embarked to Geneva, Switzerland for the two-week-long three-credit “Geneva: International Trade and IP, International Rule Making and Dispute Settlement” summer abroad program. Running from June 1st to June 14th, WCL students - led by Professors Christine Farley and Padideh Ala’i - learned about the WTO, WIPO, international treaties on IP, and substantive areas of international economic relations governed by the WTO. Students had the unique opportunity to attend class on-site at the WTO and WIPO headquarters, engage with WTO and WIPO lawyers on international trade and IP law issues, and network with international trade and IP experts based in Geneva. WCL students concluded the program with familiarity with WIPO treaties and WTO agreements, critical evaluations of the impact and success of agreements, understanding of the WIPO’s and WTO’s role in developing international minimum standards, and discussions of contemporary issues facing the WIPO and WTO.
