Student Welcome Event
September 10, 2025: The Center for Human Rights & Humanitarian Law hosted its annual Student Welcome Event, a tradition that marks the start of the academic year by introducing students to the Center’s work and community.
The event brought together more than 60 students alongside 10 professors and program directors for an afternoon of conversation, networking, and exploration of the many opportunities the Center offers. Faculty members shared their expertise and discussed how their ongoing work in areas such as freedom of expression, torture prevention, impact litigation, gender justice, and international accountability connects with the Center’s mission. Students also learned about ways to engage with the Center through our wide range of programs, initiatives, and projects.
The event underscored the Center’s commitment to serving as a hub for human rights scholarship and practice, while creating opportunities for students to connect their classroom learning to real-world advocacy and legal work.
We are grateful to the students who joined us and to the professors and program directors who shared their experiences and perspectives. With such an engaged community, we look forward to a year of meaningful dialogue, innovative programming, and collective efforts to advance human rights.
