Fall 2025 Coffee and Human Rights Series
September 2, 2025: The Center for Human Rights & Humanitarian Law was delighted to welcome students, faculty, and colleagues back to campus with the first Coffee and Human Rights conversation of the semester.
Our Coffee and Human Rights Series provides an informal space for dialogue, bringing leading human rights practitioners to AUWCL to share their insights and experiences over coffee. These conversations are designed to foster connection between experts and the academic community, encouraging candid discussions about current challenges, strategies, and opportunities in the human rights field.
This semester’s opening event featured Viviana Krsticevic, Executive Director of the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL), in conversation with Professor Eduardo Bertoni, Director of the Center for Human Rights & Humanitarian Law. Ms. Krsticevic, a renowned human rights lawyer and advocate, shared perspectives on international litigation, the defense of human rights defenders, and the evolving role of advocacy in shaping global justice.
The discussion highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary approaches to human rights work, as well as the role of students and young professionals in advancing accountability, gender equality, and climate justice. Students had the opportunity to engage directly with Ms. Krsticevic, raising questions about practical career pathways, advocacy strategies, and the global human rights landscape.
We are grateful to everyone who joined us and contributed to a thoughtful and dynamic conversation. The Center looks forward to hosting additional Coffee and Human Rights sessions throughout the semester, each designed to connect our community with practitioners working on the frontlines of human rights.
