Description

The course introduces basic accounting principles, concepts, and terminology. The course will begin with an examination of how financial accounting and reporting requirements result in the recording of economic transactions and the summarization of those transactions in financial reports. Having established that foundation, the remainder of the course will consider the accounting and reporting for, and issues related to, specific financial statement elements including shareholders’ equity, liabilities and contingencies, and revenues and expenses. The course will also include a discussion of the role and development of generally accepted accounting principles and generally accepted auditing standards, financial statement analysis, and the impact of the accounting and auditing related requirements resulting from the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. The problems contained in the textbook and examples drawn from current events will be utilized to illustrate the course material.

The final exam will be worth 100% of the student’s grade.
