Application for Graduation

Download your Application for Graduation here. (pdf format)

Candidates for degrees are to file an Application for Graduation Form in the Office of the Registrar during the registration period for their last semester of study. No fee is required.
Graduation Registration Period - consult the Records Services Office for deadline information at (202)274-4080.
Only after application for graduation has been made can the Office of the Registrar begin processing the necessary information for final certification of graduation. Students who fail to complete all degree requirements by the end of the term for which they applied to graduate must reapply to graduate in a later term.

Eligibility to Attend Commencement

The university grants degrees at the end of each Summer, Fall and Spring term. A commencement ceremony is held once during the year, in mid-May, to recognize degrees awarded the preceding Summer and Fall, and for students completing their degrees in the Spring.

Students file an application to graduate for Summer, Fall, or Spring as they register for what they expect is their final term of study. The application triggers a review of the student's academic record to determine whether or not it is possible for the student to complete degree requirements at the end of that term.

The university strictly enforces the policy for attending commencement. Students planning to graduate at a particular time are responsible for maintaining an appropriate course load and completing degree requirements in time to be eligible for their targeted graduation.
