Description
This course will provide students with an introduction to how law in the United States grapples with the concepts of sex and gender. Students will focus on how law and social policy is used to challenge or reinforce gender norms and the potential perils or benefits to using those mechanisms for social change. In each class, students will examine examples of legal mechanisms that enable or constrain the ability of women to participate in the labor force, make choices about reproduction, health, and family life, access education, protect themselves from violence, and navigate the criminal justice system.
