Textbooks and Other Materials

The textbook information on this page was provided by the instructor. Students should use this information when considering purchases from the AU Campus Store or other vendors. Students may check to determine if books are currently available for purchase online.

First Class Readings

Materials. You are required to use Randy E. Barnett, Contracts: Cases and Doctrine (4th ed. 2008) [hereinafter Casebook].

You may also choose to buy Steven J. Burton & Melvin A. Eisenberg, Contract Law: Selected Source Materials (2008 ed.) [hereinafter Supp. or Supplement], which many students find handy. You can certainly manage without the Supplement by using alternative sources, but doing so may require some additional time.

First assignment. Before the first class, prepare pages 61-72 in the Casebook. “Prepare” means you should read the assigned materials and brief each case using the following headings in your case brief, to the extent possible: Facts, Procedural History, Issue(s), Holding(s), and Reasoning. You should also do the problems on page 72.

You may wish to get started on the assignment for Wednesday by preparing 193-202 in the Casebook. Note that the rest of the assignment for Wednesday, along with the syllabus and the assignments for the first few weeks, have been posted.
