The Impact of a Successful EU-US Trade Agreement and the Transpacific Partnership Agreement on World Trade

Date: Monday, April 22, 2013
Time: 05:00PM - 06:00PM
Description: The EU and the US enjoy the largest bilateral trade relationship in the world. Such a Trans-Atlantic Partnership Agreement would form an economic zone that covers 40% of the world's gross domestic products. At the same time, momentum is building behind a Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) that brings together the U.S. with dynamic economies, including, Singapore, Australia, Vietman, Peru, Chile, Mexico, Canada, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, New Zealand and most likely Japan in the near future. What is the impact of all this on the WTO or on the emerging economic powers such as China and India? The official Chinese media's reaction to the EU- US Trade Agreement has been that it will purposefully outflank the Doha negotiations forcing unreasonable concessions on the rest of the WTO members. This is a roundtable discussion aimed at addressing these and many other related issues.
