Description: Succeeding as an LLM: Advice from ILSP Alumni The International Legal Studies Program (ILSP) designed this half- day seminar for incoming LLM students. Alumni, professors, and current law students will provide information and demystify the American law school experience and provide students with practical information that will improve their academic performance and allow them to get the most out of their LLM year. 2:00pm Introduction 2:15-3:30pm LLM Success Strategies •Reading, briefing cases and taking notes •Use of study aids and outlines •Studying in groups •Class participation •Test taking skills •Common mistakes •Closed versus open book exams •Finding and utilizing old exams •Improving your English skills (including introduction to resources available) •After the exam: feedback and learning from your mistakes •Time management (relationships, school activities, community ties) •Stress management (make time for exercising, hobbies, volunteering) •School activities and planning ahead •Q & A 3:45pm Coffee Break 4:00pm Talking to your professors. Professors will discuss their expectations for interaction with students, including what makes a positive impression on them •How to best communicate/ reach a professor (email/ office hours) •Writing style for exams and papers (how to express your research and ideas) •Importance of grades (effect on internship/ job opportunities) •Option to pursue internships and count academic credit for your work 5:30pm Networking Happy Hour, 6th Floor Student Lounges
